Terrorist Funding

It’s that season. I’ve just filled in my personal tax eturn from last year.

But something is different from previous years. In fact a combination of two things. The first is, broadly speaking, a Good Thing: I made enough money to get stung for significant tax – something I haven’t done in recent years. The second is the problem: rather a lot of those taxes are now funding state terrorism, most notoriously in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans.

Under the principle established at Nuremberg that “only obeying orders” is not a defence, does that make me just as guilty as the soldiers of the British Army who obey their orders?
